Foster Care for a Better Future

Treatment Foster Care (REH-TFC) is a unique program that focuses on matching and supporting children who need a safe, secure environment with families who can provide a nurturing home where children can thrive. Ramey's Team strives to wrap support services around your family as you welcome a child into your home. We understand the challenges and successes that stem from opening your home, and that's why we partner with you to provide a variety of training and support as you journey through foster parenthood.

Our community children need dependable adults who can provide a stable, loving and nurturing home environment. If you have a stable home, flexibility and patience, Ramey-Estep will provide the support services you need to open your home to a child.

“I absolutely adore each and every one of the foster care staff. I have always been treated with respect and have always been made to feel like I mattered.  Everyone is kind and cares about the kids in care. I’m glad I chose Ramey as my foster care agency instead of others.  It was the best decision I have made.  When I’ve had questions, they have always been answered.  When I’ve had concerns, I’ve had reassurance and help. When I had surgery, they checked in on me.  Ramey staff, to me, isn’t just case managers or therapists, they are part of my family”

FAQs

FAQs

Question: Do you have to be married to be a foster parent?

Answer: Nope! Single, engaged, dating or whatever your relationship status is, we are open to accepting.  However, if you are in a relationship, stability if very important! Foster youth are typically removed from chaotic and unstable environments, so we need our foster parents to be stable and committed.

Question: Do you have to own a home to be a foster parent?

Answer: Nope! Owning and renting homes or apartments are both perfectly acceptable. A home inspection will be completed prior to certification to ensure there is enough physical space in the home to accommodate foster youth. We also require homeowners or renters insurance on file for every foster home.

Question: Do I have to be a stay at home parent to become a foster parent?

Answer: Nope! Majority of foster parents are employed full-time or part-time outside of the home. We encourage employed foster parents to identify a babysitter or daycare services for when they are unable to provide childcare. We will even pay for a background check of your babysitter of choice to ensure your foster youth is receiving care from a trusted adult!

Question: Do you have to be willing to adopt to become a foster parent?

Answer: Nope! We have a range of non-adoptive homes that include short-term placement and respite homes.  We need foster parents who are willing to work with the family of origin of foster youth for reunification purposes and foster parents who are open to adoption in times when youth are unable to return home.

Question: Are foster parents allowed to have pets in the home?

Answer: Absolutely! Pets are permitted if vaccines and regular check-ups are maintained for each animal in the home. Most children and teenagers adore animals, and they can be very therapeutic!

Question: Haven’t children in the foster care done something bad to end up there?

Answer: The majority of children who end up in the foster care system have done nothing wrong. They are typically victims of neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse. Foster youth are often removed from dangerous or life-threatening home environments and require a safe foster home while their family of origin attempts to remedy the issues that resulted in the removal.

Question: Are all children in the foster care system teenagers?

Answer: There are children and teenagers in the foster care system from ages birth to 20. Our foster parents determine the age range they are willing to accept into their home.  But just a reminder, babies and young children need homes just as much as teenagers!

Question: Doesn’t Ramey Foster Care only accept placement from Ramey Residential?

Answer: Nope! We do like to step-down our residential youth into our foster care program, when appropriate. But we accept youth from birth to 20 from all over the state of Kentucky.  We have provided foster homes for infants upon discharge from the hospital after their birth to 20-year-olds who have secured their own housing and are transitioning into independence!

Question: Once I become a foster parent and have a child or teen placed in my home, am I on my own?

Answer: No way! We are there to support you and the foster youth every step of the way. REH-TFC provides all foster parents with training and support to help meet the needs of foster youth placed in your home. Each foster home will have a Case Manager assigned, once a foster youth is placed, and they will be in consistent communication and visit your home frequently to provide support, guidance, and help. Dependent upon the needs of the foster youth, a Therapist may also be assigned.  The Therapist will provide you with insight regarding mental health needs and parenting techniques which will allow you to better meet the needs of your foster youth.  And don’t forget, we provide 24/7 support, so you’re never alone in your foster parenting journey!
